Muslims in the United States have been popping their collars for quite some time.
Abdulrahman Ibrahim Ibn Sori [1762-1829], a “prince among slaves,” was captured at the age of 26 from present-day Guinea, and enslaved in the US state of Mississippi. In 1828, he was finally freed by the order of President John Quincy Adams, after being enslaved for 40 years - during which he lost neither his Muslim faith nor his dignity - both of which finally led to his freedom.
