The Prophet Muhammad (saw) said, "Anger corrupts faith in the same way that vinegar destroys honey."

Had a birthday this week-- got lots of love but still... felt some sort of way. Didn't hear much from people I was expecting something from, well, nothing from some people I was expecting almost anything from. It's easy, when you're fasting, to be angry and short tempered. But that's the point too-- it isn't just to bring to fullness the realisation that we're blessed with such bounty, but also the realisation that we're mean to be a blessing and act as blessed even when our tummies are temporarily rumbly.

Bismillah, alhamdulliah.

This, btw, is the first and last time I wore this sweater. It immediately got black hair dye dripped onto it. Well, maybe I'll dye it some other color. I can't remember if I bought this scarf at Hilal Plaza or if it was thrifted.

Nusaybah

Nusaybah went to the battle of Uhud-- a really terrible and bloody battle for the Muslims from Medina. She thought that she should be there (there were only two women from the Muslim group at the battle) to help the wounded and give water to the thirsty so, she brought a skin of water and marched after the Muslim army.

The sword, bow and quill of arrows that she strapped to herself as she went? Just because.

She stayed in the command position with the Prophet, Sallalahu Alayhi Wasalam, and the other companions who were watching the battle.

The tide turned in the battle though-- the archers ignored the order to stay put and suddenly, the cavalry of Meccans were able to advance on the Prophet and his companions. Contingent after contingent of Meccans attacked the smaller and smaller group of people protecting the Prophet-- a man would sacrifice himself for the Messenger of God and then another, and another and then? Guess what happened?

Guess who drew her sword as the last person between the Prophet and the army of unbelievers?

Stuff like whether a girl gets to pray next to you doesn't seem so important does it. MashAllah!

Khalid's voice annoys me, but this is worth watching to the end. He speaks of the Prophet (may peace and blessings be upon him) and his return to Mecca after his escape to Medina. When he came back, he could've gone crazy in taking revenge but instead stated "They are all forgiven."

Khalid talks about Islam's legacy of peace and talks about MLK Jr and Ghandi as well. He speaks of how people only think of Islam as violent, but how Allah gave us rules even in combat to be gentle, respectful and to save as much as possible.

He ends by reminding us that the ends don't justify the means all the time, that intention matters in how you conduct yourself and that, although we're not necessarily at war-- we too can be merciful. He says "Let compassion be your motivation, let mercy be your catalyst."
